Kevin:
Hello Jim,
Happy holidays.
Hope you had an
enjoyable Thanksgiving.
We have had Buck out
pheasant hunting a number of times now (5 or 6) and we couldn't be more
pleased and impressed. He is getting very bird savvy. None of the
pheasants tricks are fooling him any more. The other day we downed a hen
and saw her duck into heavy cover. I told Ed that if Buck couldn't find
her then she was gone because we would never find her in such thick cover.
Ed and I searched the area that we last saw the hen in. Buck soon moved
away from us. I began to think he might have lost interest when a minute
later and about 30 yards away he went on point. Sure enough there was the
wounded hen. Buck found hard to locate downed birds twice more that day
and pointed his way to helping us bag eight pheasants in about 3 1\2
hours. It was our best day yet. I am starting to trust him as if he were a
seasoned veteran.
Our next hunt will
probably be next Sat. at one of the state grounds. We can't wait.
Buck is now ten months
old. His appearance is lean and starting to become muscular. His head is
shaped very much like Paytons. He now weighs 52 lbs. Do you think he will
grow much more and if so how? Taller? Heavier? or both. We feed him well
according to your instructions and he is the picture of canine health.
When afield either hunting or hiking he is energetic and tireless.
I'm sure you will be
pleased to hear that Buck has a very agreeable temperament and is a
pleasure to be around. His desire to please Ed and I is always evident
especially when compared to other breeds that we have contact with.
Happy Holidays again
and Thanks,
Kevin
